FAQs - booking Patagonia flights

  • Where should I fly to in Patagonia?

If you are wishing to explore the northern regions of Patagonia, consider booking a flight to San Carlos de Bariloche Airport (BRC). You can also fly to Trelew via the Almirante Marcos A. Zar Airport, which is also in the northern region. Flights here are slightly more expensive than flights to Bariloche. El Calafate International Airport is located in the central part of Patagonia.

  • Do I need a visa and passport to travel to Patagonia?

If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a visa to enter Chili, Argentina, or anywhere in the Patagonia region. However, you cannot stay longer than 90 days without a visa. All visitors must have a valid passport upon entering Patagonia and the surrounding countries. The passport should be valid for at least six months after the start date of your travel.

  • I want to explore Los Glaciers National Park. What is the nearest airport to fly to?

Booking a flight to El Calafate International Airport is the closest airport for visiting the largest national park in Argentina. Arriving in the city of El Calafate will put you about 42 miles outside of Los Glaciers National Park, a short drive by rental car. You can also travel via bus or transit.

  • I want to visit Tierra del Fuego. Where should I fly?

The nearest airport to the famous Tierra del Fuego is the Maldives International Airport (AIU-MA). It is 3 mi from the city of Ushuaia, which will connect you to the Gran island of Tierra del Fuego in 4 hours by road. If you prefer, you can also go to the Gdor. airport Ramon Trejo Noel (RGA). However, this airport does not receive international flights, so it is a suitable choice if you are already in another city in Patagonia and want to move to Tierra del Fuego.

  • How long is the flight to Patagonia?

An average nonstop flight from the United States to Patagonia takes 23h 38m, covering a distance of 6256 miles. The most popular route is New York - Ushuaia with an average flight time of 22h 20m.

  • What is the cheapest flight to Patagonia?

The cheapest ticket to Patagonia from the United States found in the last 72 hours was $581. The most popular route is New York John F Kennedy Intl to Ushuaia Malvinas Argentinas and the cheapest round-trip airline ticket found on this route in the last 72 hours was $1,200.

  • What are the most popular destinations in Patagonia?

Based on KAYAK flight searches, the most popular destination is Punta Arenas (45% of total searches to Patagonia). The next most popular destinations are Ushuaia (22%) and San Carlos de Bariloche (13%). Searches for flights to Puerto Montt (9%), to El Calafate (8%) and to Osorno (1%) are also popular.

  • How does KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a given destination and date is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Patagonia

  • High season is considered to be January, February and December. The cheapest month to fly from the United States is March.
  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Patagonia flight deals.
  • Booking a flight to Patagonia can be expensive if you’re flying directly to the region. Consider booking a flight to Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) first, then booking a flight to Patagonia from there.
  • You can fly straight to Patagonia’s main airport, Punta Arenas Airport (PUQ), but you may experience long layovers in other cities or countries. Flights are most likely to stop in Chile at the Santiago International Airport (SCL).
  • Consider booking a flight to Patagonia’s El Calafate International Airport (FTE) first. Flights here will be less expensive, and you can use the airport as a hub to find flights to the region’s other airports.
  • If you are planning to visit multiple cities in Patagonia, consider landing at El Calafate International Airport. It is most centrally located and nearest to parks and other things to do. Driving to any major cities and airports is only achievable by lengthy car rides. It’s better and quicker to visit other cities by flying.
  • Consider booking a flight from the West Coast to save money on a flight to Patagonia. Flying from an airport like California’s Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is less expensive than flying from the East Coast or Midwest United States.

My flight was cancelled over technical issues. They moved passengers to other flight that departed a few hours after mine. They left us for the 330 am flight (the original flight was 19:40). We went down the tiny Salta airport to grab dinner and suddenly they fixed the original flight and left, and never told us or made the announcement. It´s a really small airport, they could´ve looked for us, but didn´t. The flight took f with 8 passengers. And we got home after 6 am

There is no phone charging port on the plane. The infotainment system screen is small. The seats are very uncomfortable.

Boarding was chaotic(zones were a bit arbitrary) and we had to undergo a second check of our carry on bags and jackets at the gate...nobody was detained and nothing was removed just a waste of time as we already went through screening to get to the international gates .

it was good. the seats are super uncomfortable. No room for legs at all. but the flight was good.

The AA lounge at EZE was poor. Poor food options and poor comfort. Looked dated. The plane was old, chairs not comfortable. My entertainment sec teen was broken. Poor movie selection. I normaill fly Delta and use the Latam lounge.

Fine; flight schedule was changed the day before but they sent email and called me. They took care of the rearranged connecting flight well.

my tv was a bit broken, and so was table, so the food would keep falling, as the table was loose. they weight the carry on, and make me take out 3 magazines from the carryon, given it was minimally over the 10pound limit (which was a bit ridiculous)

Not enough legroom on flight. I was never offered the option of purchasing a seat with more legroom.

I had an 9 hr layover continuing on to Ushuaia. I expected to have to get my luggage & do customs but I did not expect Aerolinas Argentinas to make me sit with all of my luggage for 7 hours in the entrance part of the airport before they would let us re-check our bags & get back in where there are seats. People were sitting on the floor everywhere.

This is the worst airline I have used in my 30 years of travel. The boarding process was an absolute nightmare with endless lines. It took 4 hrs to get to gate while in Bunoes Aires. Also, they change flight times and gates several times leading us to go to multiple gates. Never will fly this airline again

I sat in comfort plus. It was fine. Seats were comfortable. I got drinks and snacks.

Crew was nice. Flight was timely. Seats could be better as well as the food considering it’s first class.

Left on time and arrived early this extending our 31 minute transfer. Bags made it also!

Good and consistent Printer in lounge did not work for me :(

Most of my discomfort was going through TSA. However, the Delta seats had inadequate leg room and I tried my very best to connect to the wi-fi and it was a cumbersome process that finally gave me the info that I needed to sign in AFTER I had completed the flight...Why make it so difficult to use? That said I really really appreciate the pilot taking a little extra time to avoid a bad storm area and both landings in Atlanta and Orlando were flawless to my delight!!!

Delayed in taking off because no flight crew. The in seat entertainment was working properly.

All fine save for the abominable catering. Really gone downhill. We found it all inedible.

I upgraded to first class only to find out that I still had no access to the sky lounge without a sky miles card or AmEx (something that should be emphasized outside of the fine print!) Also, no food or drink service provided during the flight, so I basically paid 4x more just for “free” checked baggage and a bigger seat. Not worth it.

I appreciated friendly service from check-in, to boarding, to in-flight amenities! Attendants were accommodating and helpful. Thank you! Elaine

Delta was really good about being transparent with why we were delayed it’s just that’s the plane was really old and outdated and a lot of the comfort and amenities we know Delta to have did not shine through

It was fine. no food or entertainment , but was only a 40 minute flight.

Routine and on time flight with pleasant stewards and decent food. Nice experience!

The crew was super friendly and respectful, they made me feel well all the fly , thanks delta

The crew was amazing. The best in the last times. Great group of people.

My experience it was okay but have many thinks to be better. For example the food, the comfort.

For bus boarding, group 1 should have been sent on a separate bus ahead of the general boarding. It would have been nice.

You delayed my trip three days for no reason other than your lack of preparedness, did not offer any compensation, including food or a bed. I couldn’t trust you so I moved up my return flight and lost another day at the end of my trip to hopefully make sure I make my next flight. I will never fly LATAM again. You have the worse accountability and reliability and clearly do not care that your clients have lives and what it cost to fly to another country.

Everything was as you would expect in coach - fine. Flight was close to on time.

No air in the middle rows. Had a hard time breathing. Was dying of heat.

Not very good, they nickel & dime you for better seats & pay extra for the checking in bag, bad service all the way around

The plane was so outdated, that it made it uncomfortable. The temperature was hot during the whole flight

Happy attentive flight crew. All in all good flight the night flight works well. Getting into Mexico City early so you don't get caught up it all the immigration and custom ques, additionally, this helps when exiting the airport and crossing the city to your final destination. All works very well and would do it again

Some entertainment and food/snack service would have been nice

All the pessengers should be wait in a line útil the creo and piloto are arrived.

Planes seat could be bigger very uncomfortable for tall humans.

1 hour waiting for suitcases to come out traveling in business class and food in business class is a sandwich? Avoid Aeromexico .

No space reserved for anyone who didn’t have underseat in front of them. Made it inconvenient to get the backs secured. No inflight entertainment in the 190. Bring your own! Food was excellent and we were surprised to get a full breakfast.

No everybody brings the proper equipment to enjoy the plane entertainment. Then I was not able to enjoy it.

Made payment for extra baggage online. When I got to check-in, they made me pay again. Lesson learned - Dont buy extra luggage allowence online, only pay at check-in.

Cons: "Plane delayed on tarmac on arrival. Immigration line was chaos with no staff helping to provide order. Missed my connection and changed to another flight the next morning - aeromexico would not pay for hotel or taxi. Supervisors were rude and dismissive, didn’t care about effect on my plans."
