The experience picking up the car was the absolute BEST we've ever had in years of renting cars! We were greeted by Nelson of Europcar--he made the experience truly wonderful. He greeted us warmly, asked about our plans, gave us tips on enjoying Madeira, made sure we got the car of our choice. Honestly, the best experience ever picking up a car. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about dropping off the car. We had a 20-minute wait for the attendant to receive our keys and inspect the car because she was alone while we waited in a long queue of other dropping off the car. When we simply suggested it was unfortunate that she was left to all that work alone, she blurted out that it was our fault!?? "You brought the car back earlier than it says in your rental contract." "But," we replied, "we are only suggesting Europcar might wish to add staff during the busy morning hours." She was unnecessarily impolite, telling us again that it was our fault. Thank goodness for Nelson and the pick-up experience! We'll stick with Europcar despite that rude reception upon returning the car.

Bad. After the return of the vehicle they unfairly overcharged me in several ways. Firstly, 4 days of insurance for a 3 day rental. Secondly, a "Premium Station Surcharge" for returning the car exactly where it was planned and known from the beginning (this charge was not mentioned before). Thirdly, a "Fuel Charge" when I just refilled the car before returning it. The person responsible for the return and for checking the car told me that I could go because everything is OK. No one informed of any issue (as fuel, for example). Then they sneakily send an invoice via email with several surcharges, hoping that you don´t notice and complain.

Do not rent from Fox/Europcar at SFO. The shuttle to the off site rental took forever to show up, and then when I got there I waited in line for well over an hour despite having a reservation. They told me I’d have to fill it up before returning but once (finally !) on the road the tank was less than half full. Felt like an experience in a developing country…. I’d gladly spend more to have a seamless and quick rental.

The car was not fully charged on pick up and we had to stop to charge and as a result a2.5 hour journey took us 5.5hours. My heavily pregnant wife was very stressed. There were no charger points available nor working when we stopped to charge. We then made it with 8miles left on the battery to the next charging station. We picked up my daughter 2hours late and that created further problems for the family looking after my daughter. They missed their connection to Ireland. The 155miles return journey to Gatwick we only just made again with less than 20miles left on the battery. We were assured the car would travel 255miles on a full charge. But it didnt ! All in all we had an awful experience and a very stressful journey, concerned all the way for my heavily pregnant wife. The girl at budget/Avis desk was Polish and her english language was very poor. I do need a car again Monday 4th for 1day hire again from Gatwick to take my daughter back to school and will use your search engine, but would be extremely concerned if we ended up with a hire from Budget again.

I love giving places the benefit of the doubt. I had a two hour wait for my car bc y out guys messed up scheduling for your staff. The staff was great- this is a company problem. Lovely people at the desk- poor management by budget. If picking up a car takes longer than the flight then there’s a serious problem with your company. This is not the first time I’ve had this experience with you. However, I was willing to leave this alone and deal with the situation. Then I turned in my car and got a bill for 70 more for a 45 minute over charge. You guys were two hours late giving us cars and have the audacity to try to charge 70 for 45 minutes? Which I turned the car in within the time alotted and there was no one who suggested it wasn’t there on time. I’m not sure when they got it checked in after I left it. But it is there. Also it’s cleaner than when I got it. The main reason I’m not going to write you an official negative review is that you had an amazing customer service rep who fixed the problem on the phone. You are so lucky to have some great staff that keeps covering for your companies mistakes. The people deserve a raise for dealing with the lack of structure, billing issues, work force issues, and overall unconcern the company has for the time it wastes of its customers. Your staff is saving you.

Although we made it to the airport to get our flight, it was stressful not knowing if we would get there in time. They are located a five minute shuttle drive from the airport, not walkable.

Office and car lot are far from airport (~15 min shuttle ride along some single lane dirt roads) and not easily accessible to return car. No one answers at the customer service phone number, just disconnects after holding for a few mins. Car pickup was OK, but return was confusing as attendants are uncommunicative. Shuttle service to/from airport is once every ~10-15 min but can only accommodate 8 passengers at a time, so forced to wait for 2nd shuttle run on returning to the airport. Recommend choosing another company with car pickup/drop-off lot at airport terminal and responsive personnel.

Chose the SUV option with a Qashqai in the image which we paid extra for as I would expect to do. We were given a KIA Stonic. Tye boot was tiny and made our journeys very uncomfortable. We have x2 children, x3 large suitcases and a pram and this car was not practical at all. It is over 100litres smaller than a Nissan Qashqai. Not happy with the vehicle we received at all. Thanks

They didnt give me car because I don't have international licence. If you check the art 135 highway law, you will see if I have official translation of my driving license I am allowed to drive in Italy. I showed my Canadian driving license and translation but they didn't give my car.

Worst ever customer service. Stupid processes. It all started w not being forewarned about needing an international drivers license! This cost us over €100 and we’ve not needed one anywhere in Europe in 5 years of travelling. Things did not get better after that. You get what you pay for.

They start by asking - your first time with the Company (weird question to ask everybody) - but I now understand why, This has to be your first time, as it will be your last time. I’ll start by stating that I booked this trip over the phone directly with an enterprise employee in advance. I arrived to enterprise rent a car 15 minutes before my pick up time, 12:00. There was a significant line which was to be expected as it was a holiday weekend however, my friends and I ended up waiting almost 2.5 hours to receive our car. I first spoke with an enterprise employee at exactly 12:03 and our car did not show up until 14:26h causing us to be late to an event out of town. When first speaking with the employee she advised me that the model of car I had reserved was not available and tried to upgrade me to a BMW 2 door convertible. I had specifically reserved a 4x4 large vehicle as we were five people in total with many bags between us. The enterprise team informed us they would bring us another car from a different office which as aforementioned, ended up taking nearly 2.5 hours from the time of check in to the time we departed. The saddest thing is that we were not the only party this happened to. There were two other groups who waited just as long as us in order to receive the type of car they had booked. Even more embarrassing, on one occasion when we checked in with an employee to ask for an estimated time of arrival for our car, he informed us it was coming “soon” and then proceeded to call other clients who had rented cars with enterprise and ask them when they would be returning their cars as they had surpassed their return time. Inconsiderate and a shame. Companies like enterprise need to ensure they maintain the appropriate quantity of cars as well as models for customers in order to avoid unnecessary delays and wait times. I believe the problem lies within the management of this branch as well as overbooking cars based on the assumption you might have “no shows” or cancellations seeing as when booking online there is no payment made up front. Moreover, we were not even offered a discount for the inconvenience. It’s safe to say I will not be booking with enterprise again.

Pick up was a bit chaotic, we had to wait a while for a car and then we got an upgrade which was nice, a brand new Volvo XC60 Hybrid but unfortunately the National / Enterprise rep failed to give me any advice how to operate the car and we had to keep getting out the car to ask him Qs. Further, we couldn't exit the car park initially as the car had not been set up for this it seems. On return of the car we had another problem as Enterprise emailed us a line of directions that when inputted into Google Maps (which was the car's navigation system) sent us to the wrong address initially and we almost missed our flight as a result. When we got to the right address the hand over and shuttle to the airport went very smoothly. The car was good and comfortable for our purposes, over 800km driving om highways in Spain

No bathrooms at Madrid Alamo site, just hits with no TP or way to wash hands, very gross. Car wasn't washed, windshield dirty. Kept us from noticing a small windshield star until we were off driving. It was hard to get a picture of it and nobody answered the phone. We didn't have time to circle back. Ended up causing a fuss in Sevilla when we returned it. Luckily the manager found the damage previously noted in the car repair log, it had been repaired but reappeared. The gas was also 3/4 fill, s PITA since some stations have attendants who want to fill it up and husband had to haggle with that.

The car left me stranded in the middle of nowhere, had to have the car towed to somewhere and then returned the car the next day in a different city because it wasnt working the Alamo representative wouldn’t help me replace the vehicle with another one so I had to rent another car from a different rental company. Alamo put me in a dangerous situation giving me a car that didn’t function properly and didn’t do anything to resolve the issue.

I reserved a car online few minutes before going to rental location. When I reached there the lady said I should have made reservation directly with them because the car I reserved online was not available and I will have to wait for 2 hours so that she can find same car for me! Or I have to upgrade and get a more expensive car. There was no one but me at that location, means they were not busy at all and there’s no reason for me to wait 2 hours. I understood that she was pushing me to get a car they were not able to rent easily. Secondly I took insurance for car when making reservation through Kayak. She said that insurance is not valid in Spain and was trying to sell me an insurance costing $100 a day!! I went online and got an insurance valid anywhere in world for $84 for a week. Car pick up and drop off was easy and staff was good there. Car itself was in good condition.

Extremely disappointed with the service. The car I got was WAY SMALLER than what me and my family needed, which almost forced us to completely change our plans as our luggage didn't fit in it. We had to figure things out on the go. The company didn't move a finger to help us finding another car, not even paying the difference. I likely won't use the service again.

Pros:

Yes, but the process is unnecessarily deceptive. The pricing seems favorable but than they hit you with exhorbidant insurance costs that exceed the actual rental cost. These costs are hidden until your at the counter. Lots of other add-on costs. VERY unpleasant process. I expected more from HERTZ.

This was one of the easiest and most pleasant car rental I've ever had. And I've had hundreds in the US. The first car we drove away was a manual transmission. When we got to our destination, we discovered that we had very steep hills and hairpin turns to navigate. And it was raining. Drivalia allowed us to exchange cars and sent us happily on our way. The 2nd car was Kia and fantastic. The drop off couldn't have been simpler either...just drop the keys and go!

The car provided was fine. The shuttle is a relatively long drive to their off-sight location, then a 45 minute wait until we were in the car, then a low-fuel light came on within a couple of miles of the pickup spot (the agent told me it had around 1/4 tank left). It wasn't easy to find a fuel station in a foreign location during a rain storm! The waiting room at the off-site location was crowded with clients renting and returning cars so that several people had to stand for long times. I would never again rent from this company, nor use Kayak if that is their best offering.

We didn’t know we were renting an electric car. Not obvious when selecting car size. Expedia, 3rd party handled actual rental and assigned an electric car to us. Didn’t check confirmation that Expedia sent. So, that’s on me- have to cancel 24 hours ahead. An electric car in a country where you don’t speak the language and they have different charging systems was a pain. First charger we found was a slow charger. Got only 15% charge in an hour while we were at a museum. This added stress to our vacation that I could have done without.

Great car in a good condition at a great price. The “office” is quite hard to find, at the back of a car park without signage directing you to it, not accurately located on Google maps and there’s no desk in the rental terminal with the other companies. The drop-off took almost an hour because they were very short staffed (one person) and their systems do not seem exactly fluent.

Amazing as usual, not having a counter is so great. No one is trying to sell you anything, you get the car you booked, and there is no time pressure for being late, as the counter is not going to close because it doesn't exist.
