The experience picking up the car was the absolute BEST we've ever had in years of renting cars! We were greeted by Nelson of Europcar--he made the experience truly wonderful. He greeted us warmly, asked about our plans, gave us tips on enjoying Madeira, made sure we got the car of our choice. Honestly, the best experience ever picking up a car. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about dropping off the car. We had a 20-minute wait for the attendant to receive our keys and inspect the car because she was alone while we waited in a long queue of other dropping off the car. When we simply suggested it was unfortunate that she was left to all that work alone, she blurted out that it was our fault!?? "You brought the car back earlier than it says in your rental contract." "But," we replied, "we are only suggesting Europcar might wish to add staff during the busy morning hours." She was unnecessarily impolite, telling us again that it was our fault. Thank goodness for Nelson and the pick-up experience! We'll stick with Europcar despite that rude reception upon returning the car.

Bad. After the return of the vehicle they unfairly overcharged me in several ways. Firstly, 4 days of insurance for a 3 day rental. Secondly, a "Premium Station Surcharge" for returning the car exactly where it was planned and known from the beginning (this charge was not mentioned before). Thirdly, a "Fuel Charge" when I just refilled the car before returning it. The person responsible for the return and for checking the car told me that I could go because everything is OK. No one informed of any issue (as fuel, for example). Then they sneakily send an invoice via email with several surcharges, hoping that you don´t notice and complain.

Very long wait for pickup at LAX, slow moving queue at FOX, and ended up with a large Jeep SUV (Terrible to drive), after ordering midsized SUV. Final annoyance was that I was charged $150 when quoted $105. Tried to ring to dispute the charges but no answer.

Do not rent from Fox/Europcar at SFO. The shuttle to the off site rental took forever to show up, and then when I got there I waited in line for well over an hour despite having a reservation. They told me I’d have to fill it up before returning but once (finally !) on the road the tank was less than half full. Felt like an experience in a developing country…. I’d gladly spend more to have a seamless and quick rental.

The staff at the pick up location was unfriendly. The drop off staff was excellent. However, the drop off location address is not where the car gets dropped off. It drops in an underground parking lot a few blocks away from the Ok Mobility office.

They didnt give me car because I don't have international licence. If you check the art 135 highway law, you will see if I have official translation of my driving license I am allowed to drive in Italy. I showed my Canadian driving license and translation but they didn't give my car.

Staff at the counter was outstanding. The car type I reserved was unavailable so it took some extra time to find a solution. We did. The return is fantastic - all rental companies return in a single location and there is no need to wait for a receipt. Things to improve: Directions to the counter, including a clear map, should be added to the reservation. Current information is insufficient. IMPORTANT - an email with a detailed receipt should be sent immediately after returning the car. It wasn't.

Wrong van Poor customer service Dirty and banged up car Couldn’t properly install my child seat and was left no choice but driving with my 1.5 year old without a child seat Didn’t have a van at location and had to drive through entire Munich to a different location Worst experience in 20 years renting cars! Pick up is confusing, nobody there to go over the rental car for previous damage, and the same at drop off. I had to take lots of pictures and got accused of having a rock chip in windshield, witch was there before I took possession. I have no intentions to rent from Sixt ever again. The rental car had lots of previous damage and should have been repaired before it got brought back to the rental fleet. My thoughts are that Sixt does not take the safety of their customers and their passengers seriously.

The scheduled car pick up point was closed, thanks to hotel staff on duty, they guide us to the another Sixt car pick up point near by. I think it's good to inform us by email where is the correct car pick up point, when the scheduled car pick up point is closed. Thanks.

The vehicle that I had reserved was advertised as large enough for 5 passengers and 5 large suitcases, but the agent insisted that I needed to upgrade to a vehical costing 40 euro more per day. Then, the process of leaving the garage took an inordinate amount of time because the same agent failed to provide me with a valid parking garge ticket to exit. We had to return several times by foot in order to correct the situation to leave. Therefore, we arrived at our destination over 75 minutes late. The vehical itself did not have heat for the rear passengers. That mechanism did not work for the entire journey. Very poor experience for the price paid!

Arrived at the pickup location to then be told that the car we had booked was not available. Received a car after waiting 90 minutes, and was told it was an upgrade from the car we had booked. The car we received displayed a warning message that service was overdue by 3000km and that the engine oil needed to be changed. Will not book with Alamo again.

They gave us only key and we took the car from Munich. When we reached Frankfurt there they told us the car is demage. We lost one hour there and they found that the car was already demage when we took it. The main staff was very un cooperative and bad, but there was a black guy a helper in frankfurt office he helped us to resolve the issue. National car wants to steal the money from costumer. Please check them.

I was quoted $250 for 9 days including all taxes and fees. Actual cost ended up being $350 due to airport and country fees. Renter beware. They also forced me to take the optional fuel charge, which they did wave once I returned the car full. Otherwise my charge would have been near $450.

Car was good and price was great , although the waiting times to pick up the car was quite high since only one person was working. In addition the worst part was when the drop off occured where there was no physical person and the car park was full and there was no space to park the car safely, we called the appropriate number but there was no people speaking proper English to guide us had to leave the car in a bad way parked which stressed us as all sorts of issues could occur, can expect one floor of car park to accommodate all the rentals.

Car was not what we reserved, but was ok.

Cons:

We were forced to take the additional insurance after I showed proof of having full coverage European insurance through USAA, and an American Express card that paid any deductibles. It was a rip off and a scam. I've rented cars all over Europe for many years, and have not been forced to take additional coverage. Rental was reserved over a month in advance, with no mention of this "policy". When we arrived in Munich at 10PM, on the weekend before Christmas, we were forced to accept it because there were no other cars available in the area.

We paid for an SUV, but arrived at the airport to find that Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty all share a desk. There was a very long line and not enough employees. There were also no cars available. They were having people write their names on a list and as cars came in, you were called to come get a car. You got whatever came in, which in our case was a compact. They didn't adjust our rate to compensate for the size difference. Additionally, our credit card and car insurance both have rental car coverage, however, they stated that unless you had one of four specific credit cards, you couldn't decline the coverage required for Germany. The coverage alone was higher than the rental rate. We had no choice to pay, but what should've been a $100 rental turned into a $250 rental. The required Germany insurance information should've been posted when making the reservation and they should've over-rent for the inventory they have.

Drop off was easy.

Cons:

Vehicle had a mechanical issue and no help was available. Overcharged and no one responds to requests for contact to address the issue. No receipt provided at rental OR at drop off to show the amount I was going to be charged was more than $1200 more than I agreed to pay.

The charges i saw in Kayak and what Hertz charged me at the site was different. I did pay for CDW at Kayak, however, Hertz asked me to pay that again. It was very confusing. Appreciate if Kayak can advice why i was charged again by Hertz.

Would not rent me the car as I didn’t have two form of proof of address for the address listed on my drivers license (I did have them for my rental address where I live). Only solution offered was to pay them a c. £200 up front fee as a waiver.

I will never rent from this company again. They get you in the fine print with their insane insurance requirements, forcing you to purchase their coverage which is 3x the cost of the rental. They are also poorly located about 20 min from the rental car terminal at the airport. When they drop you off, they do not take you to the departures terminal, so you have to take another team.

Not a good experience. Office was closed in the middle of the day when we went to pick up the car. The car was not well maintained (radio did not work, maintenance lights on, low tire pressure light on etc.). Unexpected fees were also added on by the company quadrupling the cost of the rental. Do not recommend.

Luxury station wagon

Our car broke down less than 5 km from Star Car. They did not help us at all, and we had to wait for the tow truck to take us and the car to the car dealership. They charged us extra and provided no help as we did not speak the language. Will never use them again. It ended up delaying our trip 7 hours and we missed our dinner and hotel reservation, again with no assistance from Star Car.
