Pros. Location by the ocean and the warmth of the sunshine. The staff were very pleasant ( most if them)
Cons. Absolutely everything. The way it was promoted online compared to what it is was a huge disappointment to us. Breakfast buffet was dismal for a five star resort. We were unable to negotiate a fair price for food portion of our stay ($1400 US per person for 4 days meals is unacceptable). The lounge chairs were very worn and most times we had to move to 5 or six chairs to find ones the had working back rests. The bikes were in very poor repair with wobbly wheels or flat tires or seat heights unchangeable. The tennis courts were debris ridden and the tennis nets were hanging off the line and falling apart. We tried to hit golf balls and the attendant had to go retrieve balls one by one to provide a basketful. Hit water in bathroom was scarce. Pool areas were not lit up at night as shown in online photos. Restaurants were closed for dinner even though signs said they were open. The beach which was shown and promoted as the best longest walking beach in Tobago was not as it was explained. There was construction on the beach and we were told we could not walk there. We were told it wasn’t safe by some, it was private property by others, and to go around the construction and walk from there. We walked to the north side of the resort to access the beach for a walk and the grounds and buildings were in awful condition and looked abandoned and pathways were blocked by trees and branches and garbage ridden. We were so disappointed in our choice of this resort which was barely a resort at all. We travelled three days and 4 flights to get there.
Pros. Location, pool, rooms cleaned on time, response to requests timely, beautiful facility
Cons. Selection, quality & price of food. Showers too small. Desk never had any change for US currency, would not cash checks, rarely had cash to exchange for foreign currency, no cash stations on premises, most of machines in fitness station didn't work.
Pros. The hotel is ideally situated for a small conference - it recently accommodated our group of approx. 150 with ease. Staff easily accommodated us with rides to our rooms on their golf carts. Room service was exceptional - especially a very cheerful "Valerie" (I believe her name was).
Cons. Restaurant staff could not get our order right and I finally had to get up after waiting 20 minutes and ask the bartender for my own bottle of soda - I waited at the bar until he gave it to me despite mild protests from the hostesses that they would get it for me. I blame this on the restaurant and not hotel. But this truly was the only bad experience during our 5 day stay.
Pros. Great breakfast and beach area. Good vibes. Front desk helpful.
Cons. Building and elevators seem older. Could use more bellboys
Pros. Me and my partner spent the NYE week at Magdalena. Staying there for three days we had already had a great time with good food/drinks at their restaurants, beach front rooms/great views, complimentary offers of bike rentals and scuba lessons in the pool. But the true hospitality came in when we met with an accident the day before we were supposed to fly out of Tobago. The staff were so amazingly caring, people there took great care of us - starting with the concierge calling every few hours daily to check and see how we were doing and if we needed anything, and the General Manager of the property not only coming by everyday to see us and going above and beyond to drive us to the hospital and bring us medication. Extremely humane and courteous staff, we had tears in our eyes the day we left at their kindness and the courtesy extended to us. We have only good things to share about this place. It is truly the best place to stay in all of Tobago.
