We had a 5 night stay. By the time we realized (& hotel offered to move our room) it was more hassle than was worth it. The housekeeping door immediately adjacent to our room, SLAMMING at ALL hours of day AND Night. The thermostat control may have been from 1922. No real ability to regulate the temperature in the room. Either cold and warm during the night, or the reverse. Location to kill for.
The mattress was quite firm (apparently a standard Hilton mattress from my research), but otherwise, this is a great spot to stay. Easy access to major tourist attractions, shopping options, West End theatres, and more quality restaurants than you could visit in 10 days. The staff, especially the concierge, was excellent, providing prompt service and support as needed. The hotel is in gorgeous condition, an old fashioned feel while having fairly modern amenities. The room we were in had plenty of space. The only downside was the random mini stairs on the floor, making transferring luggage more cumbersome. The view in our room was basically an alleyway, but the upside was less noise from the main street (Aldwych). This was a perfect home base for our purposes.
Cons. The wait time for everything was exceedingly slow. A food order could take over 90 min for delivery. The rooms were not sound proof you could here every person who walked by and what they were saying. The staff were not trained for a hotel of that price. The breakfast selection was mediocre and the same everyday for the 9 days I was there. The hotels decor is old and outdated. It was difficult to even have a bottle of water delivered. The food was less and average.
Pros. Excellent location just off the Strand. Friendly and helpful staff, and great breakfast included in my stay.
Cons. Rooms are a little small. Also not much of an open lounge area for waiting around or hanging out, but tight space is to be expected for the location.
Pros. We traveled in from Heathrow and the hotel was close to the underground stop. Easy walking distance to all major landmarks. Staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast in the morning was awesome.
Cons. the 110 outlet in our room had a plug broken into it making it unusable.
