Good breakfast, nice pool.
Pros. Many restaurant choices nearby, free guest parking, large well-appointed rooms.
Cons. A number of issues that detracted from what should have been a very nice experience: 1. For unknown reason, I was given a handicapped room (I am not handicapped and did not request such accommodations) 2. No cups of any kind or coffee stirrers were placed in room. 3. Thermostats/climate control barely worked, took all night with AC on to bring the temperature down 5 degrees to a reasonably comfortable level) 4. Hand shower broken, and the metal coil covering the hose had a broken edge with a very sharp protrusion (fortunately I saw it before I injured myself) 5. Telephone handset did not work at all, only way to use the phone was on speaker 6. Bed was poorly made, either the fitted sheet was oriented wrong or just didn't fit...it came off when I sat down on it. There were also a million wrinkles in the mattress pad underneath. I had to remake the bed completely before I could lay down to sleep. 7. Housekeeping was vacuuming at odd hours, all evening and past midnight. You could hear it through the walls and floor as a constant hum, was extremely annoying. I have stayed with Hyatt many times before (loyalty club member) and picked Hyatt Place because of previous great experiences at other locations. I was really surprised by all of these issues in a single stay. I will say that the front desk staff was exceptionally nice and efficient (I didn't contact them about any of the above except for the cups and stirrers.)
Pros. The set up of the room was great. The sliding door for the bathroom was a nice design touch. And I appreciated the makeup wipes that were in the bathroom.
Cons. The breakfast (namely the eggs and pancakes) could be better. The pancakes were dry and depending on what morning the eggs were either flavored or flavorless. Maybe a remedy for pancakes would be to introduce a waffle maker or make waffles instead?
Pros. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons. Gym was pretty limited (but sufficient)
Pros. I have never met a kinder, more accommodating hotel staff. I recently visited to interview at Michigan State. The manager was incredible (thanks Nicole!) And staff made my stay relaxing and inviting. The bar was a perfect place to wind down after a long day. The team went above and beyond, even prepping breakfast earlier than stated for business travelers. Beyond that, the room was fantastic. Brand new furniture, the best shower I've had at a hotel in ages, and super comfortable beds. All in all fantastic!
Cons. There's not a single thing I didn't like. The only thing that would have been better was if the hotel was closer to MSU.
Pros. The overall cleanliness of the hotel. Employees very friendly and helpful.
