What are the pros of staying at Amsterdam Hostel Leidseplein?

Nice little rooms, very friendly staff! Clean, comfortable, great location. Good to know that we could put food and drinks in the fridge and that you can cook your own food. Location is ideal, able to go anywhere in the city by walking. Clean and good service. The staff were very helpful and checked in super fast. Excellent location! Great staff; wonderful value! The structure is good and offers what is promised, especially in the reception. They offer coffee in the morning, sofas, sockets, and an additional toilet.

What are the cons of staying at Amsterdam Hostel Leidseplein?

No lockers in the rooms. Too noisy in the night. I had to pay cash. There is a strong smell of body odor throughout the building. The noise on other room. No lockers, very dirty walls. The Windows were not sealed, so a lot of noise from the street. The room was too hot, and some guys were snoring as well. There are very few restrooms accessible. The room is too noisy, no insulation with the other bedrooms and outside, the beds aren't comfortable, there is no private space. Uncomfortable facilities. Bad size is 188cm. The bed was smelling bed. Not too much clean pillow and other staff. They had bedbugs in the room. Hygiene, they had bedbugs. The bunks are three stories high and it's hard to get down, all the noise comes in. Need to improve on kitchen facilities. It will be best if they have a stove so that guests can cook their own meals. Old and dated. It is very noisy on the street outside all night until about 5 in the morning. No where to store bags in the room but they are happy to take any valuables and keep them behind the desk and you can get them as you please. The rooms are above a nightclub and busy street which virtually run 24/7 making the noise pretty unbearable to sleep if you are in a street side room. Hostel poorly organized, they only accept cash payment. Found bedbugs in blanket. Immediate turnoff of property. There were bedbugs in my bed and in the whole room! Please beware. I did book the room, but when I arrive I explain that I can't sleep in the bed they gave to me because for my health problem I am not able to use the bed on top. Also they ask to pay cash, and they took the amount from my card for 2 nights. After the guy at the reception said I do not have to pay nothing, I ask my money back, but nothing. Never again. Overall, everything is more than perfect. But they don’t give towels to individuals. The room, facilities, cleanliness, and extremely high rate. There were insects on my pillow!! I have thrown away them, but some kept coming! It was very noisy being on such a busy street which made it really hard to sleep. All except pillows.

What are the best features of the rooms at Amsterdam Hostel Leidseplein?

Comfortable rooms with mini bar. Could have been better mattresses on the beds as felt like I was sleeping on a wooden pallet and maybe extra covers but apart from that I had a wonderful stay and definitely coming back. The room was basic and floor and bedding clean, but the walls were very dirty and could do with a really good cleaning. The beds are 3 bunk beds high and 1 single bed, the heating was on, so it was lovely and warm. Toilet and shower were huge and very clean, supplied with lots of toilet rolls, air freshener, and bleach. Beds with buds. The beds were very comfy and the check-in and check-out was quick. They also offered a place to store your valuables for free.

Consider a Room Away from Street Noise

Several guests mentioned that the street noise can be quite loud, especially in rooms facing the street. If you're a light sleeper, it might be worth requesting a room away from the street to ensure a quieter stay.

Bring Earplugs for a Peaceful Sleep

Due to the potential for noise from the street and nearby nightlife, packing a pair of earplugs could help ensure a more restful night's sleep.

Check for Bedbugs

Some guests reported encountering bedbugs during their stay. It's advisable to thoroughly check the bedding and room upon arrival to ensure a comfortable and pest-free experience.

Cash Payment Only

The hostel accepts cash payment only, so it's important to be prepared with the necessary currency upon arrival.

Secure Valuables at Reception

While there are no lockers in the rooms, the reception offers a service to store valuables, providing peace of mind for guests concerned about security.

Opt for a Higher Floor

Guests staying on higher floors mentioned a quieter experience away from street noise, making it a good option for those seeking a more peaceful environment.

Be Mindful of Room Temperature

Some guests found the rooms to be quite warm, especially during the summer months. It's advisable to check the room temperature and ventilation upon arrival.

Bring Your Own Towels

As towels are not provided free of charge, guests may want to bring their own to ensure they have everything they need for a comfortable stay.

Utilize the Free Tea and Coffee

The hostel offers complimentary tea and coffee, which can be a nice perk for guests looking to relax and unwind during their stay.

Check for Seating in the Communal Area

If you're looking for a space to socialize or relax outside of your room, it's worth checking if the communal area has ample seating and facilities for guests to enjoy.
