As mentioned previously, Kansas City International Airport is a convenient place to rent a van, especially if you’re flying in and out of the city. Not only does renting at the airport give you options, but it also makes it easy to pick up and drop off your van in one location without having to find other means of transportation to the airport. In addition, there is an Avis location in the downtown area near the T-Mobile Center on Wyandotte Street and another Avis location near Westport on Main Street.
The decision depends on a couple of things, including the number of people that are traveling with you. Most minivans can accommodate up to 7 or 8 people, but if you have more people in your group or you have a lot of luggage or equipment, you may need to look for a larger passenger van. Brands of minivans include Chrysler, Jeep, and Ford. Of course, each rental company has different options of minivans so you may also be able to choose from others like Nissan, Toyota, or Kia. If you want a large passenger van for 12-15 people, you’ll most likely be looking at a Ford van.
There are quite a few parking spaces in downtown Kansas City, over 40,000. There are parking lots, garages and street parking available. Each garage or lot can vary in pricing and length of parking so check signs before you park. There can also be different pricing for event parking, so be aware of what’s happening in the downtown area if you want to stay away from high parking prices.
KAYAK compares van rental prices from all major car rental companies such as Thrifty, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, Payless and more to find you the best deal.
On average a van rental in Kansas City costs $138 per day.
On average a van in Kansas City costs $967 per week ($138 per day) to rent.
On average a van in Kansas City costs $4,146 per month ($967 per week) to rent.

Pros:
Friendly service at the ick-up location; VERY pleased that when I called the 1-800 number to modify my reservation, I actually talked to a real person in under 5 minutes. Overall, Alamo has provided the best rental service that I have experienced in a long time. Will definitely use them again.Cons:
The Kansas City location required additional photo IDs (fraud prevention). This didn't affect me, but others may need to be aware of the requirement (which was not advertised in advance).6.8 Okay

Cons:
Alamo was closed when we arrived in Kansas City. The rental car company to the right next counter over had to handle the paperwork. I had already booked and paid online for an easy pick up. They made us jump through hoops while my 90 year old parents had to wait for us.10.0 Wonderful

Pros:
Everything!! The car was clean, customer service was very clear and nice to work with during the process.Cons:
Me having a mobile app to track my reservation better. I had to search through emails and track down information. This is a problem for me not with the service. Alamo was amazing and I will definitely rent from them again. Thank you4.4 Mediocre

I got a car that was dirty (inside and out) and that WAS NOT FULL OF GAS, but was down almost a quarter tank. When I pointed this out, I just got a shrug. Bet if I returned it down a quarter tank the reaction would be differentOne location in Kansas City

Travelers are in a hurry, when we do a Phone SEARCH, MCI rental cars, we actually want to PICKUP at MIC airport. Travelers don't know what street address or zip code is at the downtown location. Then there's no way to call you, you were closed. I better NOT had been charged anything.7.6 Good
Aug 2020
Pros:
The pickup process was very quick. Staff was friendly and helpful. Price was considerably less to pick up at the downtown location vs the airport- $200 less!Cons:
The downtown location didn't have a way to return the rental to them late Saturday or Sunday. I had to pay extra to take it to the airport, less than 1-2 day rental, but still a drag.4.4 Mediocre

Pros:
drop off was easyCons:
the car was dirty, the pick up attendant was short with me, the car was on empty and I had to repeatedly ask him to wipe off spit luggies from the inside of the car, he was hot and in a hurry, very transactional not the proffessionalism I am used to with you guys or other rental companies2.0 Poor

Pros:
Nothing! Terrible customer service!!Cons:
They booked me a time after they close for the day so I couldn’t pick up my car. I called the next morning when they opened but they had given my car away the day before. They wouldn’t honor my booking. They charged me double. They would’t “pick us up” (their slogan). Very frustrating!!!One location in Kansas City

Cons:
Showed up after a 30 minute delayed flight, no one at the counter to assist. Actually have a clerk at the counter that can assist during later hours. Or, if you're going to partner with another rental agency and defer your customers to their desk, make sure that desk is staffed. Avis did and was able to match your rate and earn my future business.2.0 Poor

Pros:
The counter was closed prior to the scheduled closing time. We were unable to pick up our rental under this reservation and had to check nearby counters that were still open to try to find an available rental. The entire fiasco ended up costing us more than double the original reservation. How will we receive compensation for the unacceptable incompetence?Cons:
You could have remained open until your scheduled closing time or at least until our scheduled pickup. We called ahead once the plane was on the ground and no one ever picked up despite it being 15 minutes prior to our reservation.6.0 Okay

Cons:
Our flight was delayed, the rental office was closed at the airport when we arrived at 1205am. No options but to wait there till 7am to get car. Spent $185 for a cab and hotel that wasn't in our travel plans or budget. No help or discount from budget rental!!!2 locations in Kansas City
