  • Do I need a visa to travel to Portugal?

Most countries in the Americas and the Caribbean do not require a visa and most European countries are also exempt as members of the Schengen zone. However, all African countries and the majority of Asian ones will need a visa for Portugal, which allows you to visit for up to 3 months.

  • Which airlines offer nonstop flights to Portugal?

Several airlines offer nonstop flights from the US to Portugal, but all the flights originate on the US East Coast. The Portuguese national carrier TAP Air Portugal operates direct service from Newark Airport to Porto and Azores Airlines has similar service from Boston Logan Airport (BOS) to Terceira Island. Lufthansa, United and KLM also offer nonstop service to Portugal.

  • I wish to visit the Bolsa Palace. Which airport is closest?

The Palacio da Bolsa or Bolsa Palace is the location of the country’s stock exchange and it is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Top tips for finding cheap flights to Portugal

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Portugal flight deals.
  • Lisbon International Airport (LIS) is the main international airport of Portugal, located in the capital city. It is the busiest and one of the largest airports in Southern Europe. It is a gateway to Portugal and receives most flights from the U.S.
  • If you are landing at Madeira Airport (FNC), you should consider having travel insurance in the case of cancellation or diversions. The airport experiences very strong, harsh winds through the mountains that may cause flights to be diverted to Port Santo (PXO) or even back to Lisbon. The mountainous setting in the Atlantic makes it experience plenty of winds and mountain waves.
  • Faro Airport (FAO) serves Southern Portugal. If you are visiting this area as a holiday destination, you should consider taking your flight to this airport. Flying to this airport places you close to top tourist destinations such as the Algarve. In Algarve, you can enjoy the Mediterranean climate along the coastline landscape, where you'll find the Nature Park of Ria Formosa.
  • Lisbon International Airport has two terminals: one that handles international flights or domestic departures and another for low-cost airline departures. The two terminals are linked by the free airport shuttle.
  • If you’re flying into Lisbon Airport and looking to avoid the busy crowds at the airport, book a meet-and-greet service. Your travel needs will be handled by the multilingual greeters and the porters. Experience a warm welcome with the personalized name board to ease your movement in the airport.
  • The Republic of Portugal marks the western edge of the European continent and, along with the islands off its coast, are serviced by several international airports. These airports include Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), otherwise known as Lisbon Airport, Faro Airport (FAO) in the south and Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport (OPO), or Porto Airport, in the north.
  • The northern region of Portugal includes the districts of Porto, Braga, Vila Real and Braganca and is home to Peneda-Geres National Park (Braga) and Montesinho Natural Park (Braganca). Porto Airport is the hub for this area, so if you wish to visit, it’s best to plan your flight from the US to Portugal to terminate there.
  • Coimbra, Leiria, Santarem, Castelo Branco and Portalegre districts mark the central region of Portugal and lie between Porto and Lisbon. In order to save yourself travel time, it’s better to use Porto Airport for Coimbra and Lisbon Airport for Santarem, Castelo Branco and Portalegre, as it’s closer.
  • The historical province of Extremadura is situated on the southwestern coast of Portugal along the Atlantic Ocean and is where the capital city of Lisbon is located. Other districts within reach of Lisbon Airport include Santarem, Setubal, Evora and Lisbon district itself.
  • The Algarve marks the southern boundary of Portugal where it meets the Gulf of Cadiz and is home to Faro Airport, which is the regional hub for flights from the US to Portugal. It provides access, not only to the Algarve, but to the district of Beja, and is also a launching point to explore the islands of the Madeira Archipelago.

Flight was canceled so it was not a great experience. Boarded, then deboarded. Delayed, boarded a new plane then deboarded the 2nd plane and flight was canceled. Then booked a fight to Rome and took a train to Venice the next day. Lost an entire day +

My seat was changed at the last minute and I was moved to the last row, right next to the bathroom despite selecting my seat well in advance. I was also made to check my carry on due to space but when I got on the plane there was significant empty overhead space. Picking up my carry on from the luggage carousel added time to my trip which had already been extended due to delay.

All good on Delta's part. Passengers could be a little more courteous to each other.

Screen didn’t play movies, do I was pretty boated the entire flight.

The airport process and boarding were fast. The airplane crew were nice but the food was bland and the seats extremely uncomfortable- my seat had an issue and couldn’t move back and made noise .

Inconsiderate staff, plane was very hot, poor decision-making from the crew.

Flight was delayed due to needing a replacement flight crew. Delta changed the aircraft type in Detroit. One hour delay. But once in the air, good flight

The fight was about 2 1/2 hours delayed, but that was weather related. The flight was also overbooked. But we were in Comfort plus so the flight was fine for us.

Meh. A late flight meant I missed my connections, and a 2pm LAX arrival turned into gettin in after midnight.

Flight was 3 hours late so only had an OK experience

Flight was delayed by an hour and We had to rush and run so we will make it to our connecting flight! And then when we reached Naples, Italy , our luggages were all DELAYED!!! It was a real inconvenience to us!!

United cancelled the flight after a 2 hour delay. The only choice was a 24 hour delay which was then 3 hours delayed.

Everyone on board was great. It was just super late and we missed our connection in Frankfurt, and had to power through jet lag while we waited 4 hours in the terminal. My family missed a big welcome dinner in Berlin.

It was soooo hot I was sweating even at altitude. I know you want people to sleep, but keeping it that hot is stupid!

UK Based crew was great. Very friendly and quick. The seats are just too tight and not comfortable. The plane appeared quite old. Food is better on other non-USA based airlines.

Terrible! After boarding we were stuck on the plane for 3 hours with no air circulation during a heat wave.

Two hour flight delay, it was awful and loss of sleep.

flight delayed, was put on another flight after standby queue, luggage was misplaced and arrived to me 3 days later

Clean and plenty of room for handbaggage. Leg room was cramped compared with the 777 from Frankfurt.

United Airlines was fantastic, however, UnderPricer was a nightmare. I got to the airport 4 hours before my flight. We are moving to New Zealand so had quite a bit of baggage (16 checked items) and so wanted to have plenty of time to get everything taken care of properly. When I went to check in they (United) could only find a ticket for me. The 5 tickets for my children were never officially ticketed. I called Underpricer and they told me it was United's fault and United told me that Underpricer just needs to reissue the tickets, but they refused to. I asked the Underpricer agent to transfer me to his supervisor as I was not getting the help I needed. He told me the supervisor was busy but that he would call me back in 30 minutes. 30 minutes came and went with no phone call. After an hour I called Underpricer back but they would not let me talk to the person I had talked to before, just told me that he was talking with the supervisor and technical support. I called again an hour later, was told the same thing. I tried again later, with only about 30 minutes until my flight was scheduled to leave (meaning I had been at the airport for more than 3 hours with my 5 children trying to get ticketed and board the flight). Also, my husband had moved to New Zealand 3 months prior, I haven't seen him in 3 months, my children hadn't seen their dad in 3 months, we were all extremely eager to get on that flight and get to New Zealand. The situation with the tickets did not get resolved until after it was too late to check our luggage and board our flight. We were devastated. My 11 year old son was in tears at not being able to be on his way to see his dad. Thankfully we were rebooked for the next evening, but that night it felt devastating. We'd been at the airport for 4 hours waiting. My in-laws waited with me and then helped me reload all our baggage and took us home to stay with them for the night. On the newly booked flights we could not sit together - my children were spread throughout the plane. So, even though I had paid extra to select our seats after buying my seats from Underpricer only two of us were able to sit together (thankful that my 11 year old wasn't all by himself, but not happy that my 14 & 16 year old daughters were seated by strangers). I really feel that Underpricer should refund me what I paid for the seating ($120 USD). It was a very frustrating situation and I plan on never using Kayak or Underpricer ever again.

My flights had excessive delays, alleged mechanical problems, and overall terrible customer service

Terrible, they canceled my flight due to an issue they had, couldn't fly me into the same place within 24 hrs so had to fly in 2.5 hrs away from my destination and spend even more money. The customer service was terrible (except at the airport in Charleston). Had to call to get my checked baggage fees reimbursed 2 wks later in which one customer service agent was very rude, wouldn't listen and then hung up on me. The second lady I spoke with was actually able to help me with that part thankfully. Would not recommend flying AA.

not enough crew for business class and not great service as a result. underwhelmed overall

The inability to be flexible when you need to change a Basic Economy flight, when your company demands you book through a third party, causes raw feelings about the whole experience. A major airline should realize business and personal plans change all the time. I must save my company money on travel. Even if you have to charge me for the change, I get it. But being so rigid with a policy is not the best customer service.

The offered WiFi on AA isn't worth wasting time or effort on. If you manage to connect it's incredibly slow.

American dropped the ball on this flight. It was canceled after waiting on the tarmac for 6 hours. American airline was so greedy that they open the door after close, delayed our flight then caused the pilot to over 14 hours limit if they were to fly to Phoenix. So more delays and finally flight canceled. Horrible experience with American Airline in Philadelphia.

Absolutely the worst experience. We were 5 hours delayed due to mechanical issues and a crew timing out. We were not offered any concession. When I asked for a meal voucher, they gave me $12. You can get a bottle of water for that at the airport. Offensive.

It was delay after delay. Kept changing gates too. Not a good experience.

Departure down was really rough and ended up getting motion sickness on the flight

BAD. As a family could not sit together. The gate agent told us there was only one seat in the middle left, when we got on the plane the situation was very different with whole rows of seats empty

Flew Business with a forced upgrade. dint like how the bidding went . Then at the airport the seat was less than I paid. Not fair The flight crew was great, friendly and very kind. The plane felt like a bucket of bolts. The meal was the worst ever. Ive had better on tap . this was the most disappointing leg of our trip

The flight to Lisbon from Paris was quite pleasant. However, charging several Euros for each item of food left something to be desired. Further, there seemed to be no complimentary drinks, even water.

All of my clothes were completely soaked and wet when I got to my destination. The airline was careless and left my bag on the runway during a rain storm. Very disappointing! On the connecting flight in Lisbon we were made to wait on a bus crammmed in for 20min and standing. Unacceptable Very poor experience and most of my belongings ruined!

It was disappointing to have to pay for soft drinks/ water. The sandwich I wanted was not available. Servig happened to late in the flight.

Not good. Long lines for checkin. Cramped seats. Would only give one tiny cup of water. Had to use people movers. Won’t fly TAP again

45 min late. Priority is not a priority as they put everyone in the same bus a than priority become last.

The check in process was terrible. Took a long time to check in because there is not enough agents. Once we got to gate, no announcement to board, all of a sudden people got up and board. The seats were EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE. It was a 3 hours international flight, and we were served one tiny cup of water. 😩😩 The temperature was so hot inside rhe plane we thought we were sitting in an oven. Very difficult to find a flight attendant for assistance. They ran up and down aisle to serve first class but never really look up to seve the rest of the flight. I would never fly on this airline again. The experience was horrible.

What didnt i like? You had to pay for seats after the booking was paid for. If i knew that beforehand i would have booked with emirates for a few dollars more

Most important was the effciency - on-time take-offs and landings, no missed connections, baggage arrived correctly. Friendly & professional crew. Less important was food/drink. Pretty spartan, but we'll know next time and bring our own stuff.

Great airline, new, comfortable and quiet planes. Plenty of leg room and state of the art entertainment system. The big downside is the connection in Lisbon. The airport is small and a bus is needed from the plane to the terminal. Is a mess, takes a lot of time, nobody gives an explanation, boarding zones are not honored, etc.

Baggage handling was very poor, I didn't get my luggage for 4 day's on way back. Neither a responsible person to answer my call. Kindly see my call log on lost luggage reference no BOMBA41916. all details are recorded. Difficult to convince me to fly once again. Sorry for harsh words.

Every flight was late in arrival, last was late in departure and late in arrival, then lost our luggage!

The flight, food and entertainment we all decent, except for a mishap when an attendant accidentally dropped a hot breakfast plate on my son who was fast asleep two hours before landing in London. She was very apologetic, and offered to help pay for any dry cleaning, but we have not received anything from BA. What could have been better, however, was the lack of any support upon landing to make a connection. The original flight from LAX to London had been delayed, so our time between flights had been cut to only an hour. There was no staff helping direct us where to go to get through security. When we approached anyone to ask for help, they acted bothered. I was traveling with four children that needed to use the restroom and get cleaned up after the spill, so we had to stop briefly for that, but again the gate notices directing us where to go only said to get to concourse A, there was no gate assignment. It was a busy time at security, and the process was slow, but we still arrived at the gate 10 minutes before the scheduled departure only to be told the gate had closed. We came to find out that our connection to Paris had actually taken off 5 minutes early, but without us, and six of its passengers. British Airways had to be aware of our delay and known that we had made it to security, but did not make any effort to ensure their passengers could make a tight connection through a crowded airport. Rebooking a flight for 8 hours later was not a pleasant experience and when we finally arrived in Paris at 1:00am, we arrived with only two of our six bags. Again the original flight was okay, but the support on the ground was greatly lacking.

It was pathetic. The flight was delayed more than 24 hrs. It took off next day 23:50. The staff was very unprofessional; nobody provided any information on 26th jun. Simply asked to make your own arrangements. Next day also, it was almost 3hrs delayed. Very poor communication to the passengers.

My flight was cancelled for the second time in the Raleigh to NY route .. Cancelled going from Raleigh to NY and then cancelled again from NY to Raleigh going home. Weather was the stated cause but the weather did not seem overly bad anywhere. They blamed lightning but I lived in Florida and planes constantly took off and landed in lightning conditions. I got the feeling that the flight was under booked and it was simply cancelled... The folks at the gates were nice and helpful (not their fault) but it was extremely frustrating and painful to get around those two cancellations. I missed one whole day of my vacation and had to rent a car going home in order to make it back in time to pick up my pet. The hotel I had to get going and the rental car I needed going home were both not covered by American making my vacation much more expensive. I do not think I will ever use American Airlines again.

The staff were so supportive and food was delicious on the flight. Always enjoying flying on BA!

Food could have been better. It was much better on the LHR to SFO leg than on the return leg.

The flight was on time, the plane was at the gate, and then the excuses started. First, it was a part that was needed, then it was short on staff, but they're due to arrive soon, and finally cancellation. Two large triple 7 planes to London were both canceled, leading to over 600 people looking for another flight, which of course was impossible. I had a one week holiday and was forced to spend two nights in hotels in Chicago. Just appalling. I doubt I will ever use American Airlines again.

Horrendous, the worst ever. I would not fly with them again

Horrible service. Lack of courtesy and professionalism from some cree members
