Cancelling the reservation was painful. The instructions said it had to be done by phone. When I phoned the person said why didnt you do it on line, I cant do the cancellation, you’ll have to call a different number at a different time. They were completely unhelpful in trying to change the type of vehicle (this was months in advance of the reservation date). Zero out of ten.

I feel like this company is a scam. They are trying to charge us for not having a full tank when we filled up at the gas station in their parking lot before turning car in. They also are claiming there are new scratches on the vehicle but again not true and they are refusing to send us pictures and now they will not even respond to emails. Stay away!

I like the vehicle and the fact that both pickup and dropoff were easy and fast. I could have used more familiarization with the car since it was a plug-in hybrid. I had no idea how to charge it. I also would like to have known that there was no spare tire, only a "mobility kit" that didn't have any instructions. Finally, it would have been good to know about the per kilometer tax, which increased the cost of the rental beyond the estimate. I asked if km were unlimited, but was not told about the tax. I understand the tax amount could not be predicted because it was not possible to know how many km we would drive, but at least I would not have been surprised by the extra cost.

Pros:

Totally unacceptable. I rented the car (one way) well in advance and the guy at the local Avis called me that morning (Sunday) to say they had no cars, no one had returned, and there was nothing he could do about it. I spent hours calling around my area trying to find one but it was a medical emergency, and we ended up renting an Uber, hugely expensive.

Cons:

Everything. Avis in Westport is really bad.

When we explained it was annoying and asked to be compensated we got a discount for adding the additional driver for free to compensate the expensive taxi. This was good! Car had many warning lights and we went back they said it was still good. We also didn’t have any problems during the rental period so all was fine.
