We booked through Priceline on one of the "blind deals" so we knew we were taking a risk when we purchased our hotel. The staff that we encountered at the desk and concierge were very nice and pointed us in the right direction several times. The hotel is not right on the beach, it's close, but no beachfront. The location is also a few miles from the main beach in Waikiki. This was a bit of a bummer when we discovered this. There was one pool that was not heated and was constantly full of children; there is no jacuzzi or adult pool. What they advertise as an "adult-only" pool is actually a 6" deep wading pool full of sunbathing chairs. Probably due to Covid and lack of resources, the bar at the "adult" pool was never opened, so one had to go from the 2nd-floor adult pool to the 1st-floor children's pool to get a cocktail. With a $39 per night "resort fee" we found the resort amenities lacking. The cafe was a fast-food-style service, no restaurant available where you could sit and be served. Housekeeping did not enter the room at all while we were there; we had to ask for fresh bedding and towels, but then had to unmake and make our own bed and leave the old laundry outside the door. Trash wasn't emptied at all during our stay. Again, this is probably due to Covid, and we tried to be understanding, but at over $200 per night, one would hope to have trash emptied or beds made while we were out at the beach or pool area. In the end, we wish we had spent an extra $20 or so per night for a hotel in Waikiki that had a better pool area and more dining options.
Pros. The pool and Cassandra was amazing.
Cons. 1) Please update your rooms, everything is falling apart. 2) The $40.00 per day resort fee is excessive when you don’t offer room service for an entire 7 day stay not feature and dining options at night. 3) Offering a “free gift” which is basically your way to convince people to buy a time share is unnecessary. 4) Please train Courtney to be more friendly and how to treat customers. Without customers she would have no job.
Pros. Comfortable bed, great location- close to shops, beach, marina and restaurants
Cons. I will never book through Kayak again. I accidentally booked my hotel for one night too long. I didn’t realize this until checking in. Even though the hotel said they would not charge for the extra night because I clearly wasn’t staying there, Kayak refused to work with the partner to refund me. This was an incredibly frustrating customer service experience.
Pros. I liked that the hotel was located near the harbor. A short 1 mile walk form downtown Waikiki and not too crowded with many surrounding hotels. Definitely an adult resort, although I did see a few kids. Staff was super friendly, views of the marina and ocean were great. Access to the beach just a short walk although from beaches on O'ahu this was the worst strip of ocean I visited. I'd suggest staying here and enjoying the beach elsewhere. Liked the details of the ukulele, sea shells and sarongs as décor. Room was ready early. Room was quiet and simply decorated with all white giving a feel of space. Clothes line in the shower for wet swimsuits was a plus!
Cons. The hallways were VERY dark and room numbers a bit tricky to see. Valet parking only at $35/day.
Pros. The view was beautiful, valet staff were great.
Cons. Resort fee not presented at check in, expensive parking. Staff very unaccomodating for early check in. Asked us to call multiple times throughout the week, up to the actual 3pm check in time which we were asked to wait for our room anyways, while others in line after us were getting their room keys. A double room was booked via Kayak but wasn't available at check in so we were given an "upgraded" suite with a sofa bed. The mattress pad was stained with urine and the linens were not the cleanest. The furniture is all white so stains were noticeable on the pillows. Felt very dirty. Very disappointed in the service of this hotel under their new mainland management.
Pros. The location was great
Cons. This property was aquired by diamond resorts and is the next step in scamming a new demographic. https://www.thestreet.com/story/13624491/1/is-apollo-returning-to-its-junk-roots-with-its-acquisition-of-diamond-resorts.html
Pros. From the incredible concierge and front desk staff to the warm service and incredible food poolside to the ultra-luxury modern (but not in a cheesy, cheap way) rooms that were comfortable and expertly furnished they did not miss a spot. I would recommend it as the #1 hotel in Honolulu hands down
Pros. Staff helpful though it did take half hour to find the reservation. Clean and extra nice room. Primo location
Cons. Very pricey even for Waikiki. Extra loud bar area
Pros. The Modern is off the beaten trail and appreciated how relaxing the atmosphere was. The pool area is beautiful and calm, and if you need to relax further the sunset pool is just the ticket. All restaurants and bars are excellent in the Modern too.
