The hotel is in front of Millennium Park, so location could not be better. The building has a lot of character. For example, the lobby ("Drawing Room") is both cozy and provocative. Cindy's is one of the best rooftop bars in the city. The room we stayed in was very well appointed with a huge bathroom and nice exterior lighting from the window. All employees were courteous and helpful. Five stars from me!
There was a water leak in the bathroom ceiling and it was not a new leak based on the black mold growing around it. I told the front desk about it and the answer was “I will take note of it”. I am not one to complain and I was there for only two nights, so I didn’t make a big deal out of it and just placed towels under the leak, but I expected more from Hyatt. There are several Hyatt hotels in Chicago, if you want to stay at a Hyatt property, avoid this one. I am now staying at the Loews hotel, and I should have stayed here the entire time. I will never again stay at the Chicago Athletic Association Hyatt hotel. Stay there at your own risk.
Pros. Location of hotel was great.
Cons. Food was overpriced for what you got. In room dining options were limited with very few light or healthy options. What they did have lacked creativity and freshness. A $40 breakfast should be both. Some staff were very friendly, others were cold and a bit too cool rather than service focused. Walls were thin and I could hear the elevator clunking loudly.
Pros. Fun atmosphere, interesting design elements and great architecture. Loved Cindy’s and Cherry Dining Room.
Cons. Maze like corridors. No evening service (clean towels, turndown).
Pros. Service is some of the best in the industry. Placing hotels like W, and other botuques, even larger Four Season and that ilk, into the realm of service as imperious paridy. Returning in April with colleagues and clients from around the world for business meetings, fun, and knowledge that great service and an outstanding stay awaits.
Pros. Very unique hotel with cool public spaces and furnishings. Friendly, helpful staff. across the street from the cloud sculpture at millennium park. Highly recommend!
Pros. Beds very comfortable. Location was perfect.
Cons. Lighting in bathroom not good at all. Height of tub could be a problem for kids and short adults.
Pros. Public spaces, vibe, decor, the radio in room.
Cons. The inability to do a normal load of laundry -- either by myself or by the pound -- they only offered laundry with rates like $5 per pair of underwear was a major hassle/shockingly overpriced. Rooms are pretty small and most face an old factory-type building, but that's no big deal.
Pros. Loved the location the staff and the bed
Cons. Hated not having a tub , shower only . The room view was a metal structure and a concrete wall . The room was very small.
Pros. This hotel has a really nice "members only" feel to it like a stodgy old man city club with out the stodginess. it is beautifully decorated and the rooms were not your usual doer and feel. There are so many different venues to choose from that we could have never led the hotel. The drinks and food are a bit pricey, but it fits.
Cons. The only thing I would change about the room is that we wished there was an in room coffee maker. With all of the other stuff they put in the room to charge you for, a coffee make would have been nice. Also, we had to order ice from guest services as there are no ice machines on the floor.
