They charged us over $800 cad on top on the reservation amount. I made clear I would only pay $441 CAD. Instead they charged me over $1200 CAD for a very basic car for 4 days. That’s insane. The attendant at the drop off location confirmed I was not charged the amount on my reservation, but would not help me and the two witnesses with me said it appears they’re scammers. I’ve never had this problem with renting a car with Avis in Cancun. I will be filing a dispute with my credit company. I obviously do not recommend this company.

Return was a breeze (airport location). However, pickup location (hotel zone branch) was horrible. Scammers, liars, dishonest. Didn’t want to rent the car without taking collision. After 30 min, said they could but needed to charge daily fee anyway. I refused. I can’t believe Fox and Europcar are associating themselves with a local affiliale with such unethical practices. Staff person even said this is unethical and he doesn’t like doing it, but that company owners don’t care and will fire him if he doesn’t try to scam tourists. Kayak should remove this branch location from its website.

My rental rate was $4 US for 4 days in Cancun, unbelievable but a few places had this rate. Upon arrival the Eurocar employee said insurance was not included in that rate and I needed to pay $350 for the 4 day rental. So mandatory insurance was $346 for 4 days? So i went elsewhere and paid $160.

Did the booking ahead and when came to pick up, they didn't have a car for me. Have done another booking ahead again to get a car in the next two days, and they didn't have a car again. When they finally got a car for me, they wanted to upsell insurance although I was covered through my credit card for car rental and had a proof. When I declined to buy extra insurance (liability is included) they said that I have to leave a deposit $7000 USD, which is pretty much a cost of a new car.

Cons:

Edgar Cordero tried to force us to add a $93 USD insurance per day to our rental. He claimed that it is impossible to get the car without the insurance. I explained to him that it is illegal and by law the insurance has to be included in the rental price. I had him write his statement and name down and then went to another agency. Be aware of this scam and know your rights!

The information on where the rental Car pick up and the cost were incorrect information. We arrived at the pick up site we made the reservation for and there was no Avis site and they called to say that it was only for guests of a particular hotel and that we would have to pay extra to get the car. It cost us more than double the price we signed up for and cost us hours of our time and having to pay extra taxi costs to return the car. Very aggravating experience!

Pros:

Staff wasted 3 hours of my time and then didn’t honor my reservation unless I paid 3 times the reservation price. They are crooks and their service is horrible.

Cons:

They should honor reservations even if they can rent the car for more money to somebody else. They are as dishonest as any company I have encountered and left my family stranded without a car
